An overview is provided of the issues impacting CO2 balances in cities. In addition to this, the way forward is suggested. This information creates a basis for future work by and with cities in achieving substantial CO2 emissions reduction. It can be used as an appropriate vehicle by cities to consider programs that have ambitious CO2 reduction aims.
